Benefits comparison
Compare health insurance benefits –
more than just the contribution
Osteopathy, teeth cleaning, bonus programme, contribution refund – many insurers offer considerably more than the statutory minimum. We show you what to look out for.
Good to know
Mandatory benefits vs. extra benefits
All statutory basic benefits are identical at every insurer – that's required by law. Differences exist only in the voluntary extras.
Statutory mandatory benefits (the same everywhere)
Doctor's visits, hospital stays, medication, maternity, preventive check-ups, dental treatment, sickness benefit (Krankengeld) – set by law and identical at every insurer.
Voluntary extra benefits (vary by insurer)
Osteopathy, professional teeth cleaning, bonus programmes, contribution refunds, travel health cover abroad – this is where insurers differ considerably.
Popular extras
These extra benefits are worth it
The most popular extra benefits – and what to look out for when comparing.
Osteopathy
Many insurers reimburse 2–3 osteopathic treatments per year – often with a subsidy of €50 to €100 per session. Particularly relevant for back or joint problems.
Professional teeth cleaning
Not a statutory mandatory benefit – but many insurers subsidise it with 40 to 120 euros a year as a voluntary benefit.
Bonus programmes
Many insurers reward their members with cash bonuses or non-cash rewards for preventive check-ups, sport or health-conscious behaviour.
Contribution refund
If you don't claim any benefits for a year, some insurers refund part of your contributions – up to one month's contribution.
Naturopathy & acupuncture
Some insurers subsidise acupuncture or alternative practitioner (Heilpraktiker) services. Since 2022, homeopathy is by law no longer a reimbursable optional benefit under the statutes of statutory health insurers (GKV-Satzungsleistung).
Travel health cover abroad
Some insurers offer extended cover abroad – for example for repatriation or treatment beyond the statutory requirements.

Why is the comparison free?
The comparison and any advice are completely free of charge for you. We only receive remuneration if a switch of health insurer takes place – and it comes from the receiving health insurer, not from you. You incur no costs and no obligations whatsoever.
you, always
You don't have to cancel your old health insurance yourself. Your new insurer handles the entire cancellation. You just briefly tell your employer which insurer you're switching to – the new insurer then sends them the membership certificate (Mitgliedsbescheinigung) electronically.
The entire switch happens online. No public office, no fax, no waiting room. Your membership application takes just a few minutes to submit online.
All statutory health insurers open nationwide are obliged to accept members – with no health check and no waiting period. Company health insurers (Betriebskrankenkassen) may be restricted to certain groups of people.
